Down in the Forest

The bush fire tragedy had reached out and touched them all. Jill was too tired, too sad for the terrible losses out by the sawmills, to try and puzzle it out. Time enough, another day! Maybe Kim thought that way too. Maybe he was beyond feeling at all. Yet he had looked at her -- those intelligent dark blue eyes, asking something: and saying something. Perhaps he was saying no more than -- You did well! Why dream foolish dreams? But Jill wanted this dream to come true...
