Anna Graham wants only to be the greatest actress of her day. Her star, though, is not rising fast. With slim hope Anna's acting coach has prescribed self-erasure, but her vibrant, edgy, neurotic and maybe a bit obsessive personality keeps getting in the way. Then, at 3:30 one morning, on a nearly deserted subway platform in the heart of New York City, with a wand, a cigarette, and a can of red pepper spray she leaps to rescue a complete stranger, Damon Wetly, from a pair of murderous muggers. And in that brave, selfless moment Anna unwittingly alters the course of her own destiny.
